What are Mud Sales?

Each spring in Lancaster County, Amish, neighbors, and guests from all over come together to help out local fire companies. If you don’t know what a Mud Sale is, it’s the Lancaster County term for an annual auction or sale that takes place at a number of local fire companies.

The sales are named for the thawing ground, which makes it a bit muddy sometimes when you’re walking around the fields! These sales attract thousands of people looking for bargains on anything from Amish quilts and antiques to lumber, buggies, farm animals and equipment. Most sales start at 8:30am, but activities continue throughout the day.

If you’re looking for some real local Amish flavor, these are your best bet, and you’re bound to have some GREAT food and excellent deals!

About Sarah

Sarah grew up in Philly and moved to Lancaster permanently after meeting her husband. Sarah loves being outside, and finds joy in little wonders, taking her kids for a stroll downtown, and is always up for trying something new. She is often teased for being the youngest member on staff, as the Director of Marketing at Discover Lancaster. If you're familiar with Lancaster County at all, and have been to Central Market, you may run into her father-in-law, as he's the owner of Long's Horseradish!
